Adidas Debuts Limited-Edition Basketball Shoe
Boston Celtics’ Kevin Garnett Releases Signature Shoe

BOSTON (June 5, 2008)—Boston Celtics forward Kevin Garnett is making his footprint in basketball history. In honor of his team’s journey to the NBA Championship, Garnett is launching a special version of his Team Signature Commander shoe in conjunction with adidas.

Although the Team Signature KG Commander shoe is not scheduled to debut until October, the basketball star will wear a unique edition featuring the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship trophy on one side and an embroidered number signifying the most recent game played from 1 to 7. The game number will be green, and will get larger as the finals continue.

Only eight pairs per finals game will be manufactured, for a total of between 28 and 56. After the finals, Garnett will autograph one pair of shoes that will be auctioned on NBA.com. All proceeds will benefit NBA Cares community partners in the Boston area.
“All season long it has been about ‘we’ and not ‘me,’ so as we head into the NBA finals I wanted to do something special for the Boston community,” Garnett says. “That is why we came up with this limited-edition adidas Team Signature KG Commander. Since day one, the fans of Boston have made me feel like family, so to do this and be able to give back to them is a great honor.”

The limited edition shoe will also sport Garnett’s two identifiable characteristics, which recognize his good friends and mentors Malik Sealy, a former Minnesota Timberwolves teammate, and Kirby Puckett, former Minnesota Twins Superstar Centerfielder. Malik is honored by “2 Malik” located under the strap, while Puckett is acknowledged with a “KP 34” on the back of the shoe, under the adidas logo.

“KG redefines what passion means on the basketball court, but this energy also spills over to include every off-court initiative that he is involved with as well,” says Lawrence Norman, adidas vice president of global basketball. “His switch never turns off—KG is 100 percent authentic, and his drive to make a difference in the community is real and ongoing. This was the perfect concept for a guy like KG and adidas to get involved with as we both enjoy finding fun, creative ways to give back to the local community.”

The limited-edition adidas Team Signature Commander will only be available at Celtics.com, the TD Banknorth Garden Pro Shop and the NBA Store in New York. Each pair will retail for $1,017 to commemorate the drive for the team’s 17th championship.
