Genesco Warms Feet For The Holidays
Retailer Gives Back With Charitable Event

NASHVILLE, TENN—Park Avenue Elementary School was the place to be on Dec. 15 as more than 140 Genesco volunteers fitted more than 700 children with a new pair of shoes and a hat just in time for the cold weather season. The group set up a mock shoe store in the school’s gymnasium and helped the children pick out their own shoes. In addition, Tennessee Titans linebacker David Thornton joined in the fun for his fifth consecutive year, and contributed drawstring backpacks.

"We feel we are privileged to be at Genesco and our success creates the opportunity for us to give back to the community in this unique way," said Bob Dennis, president and chief executive officer of Genesco. "We have the best in the industry fitting these children, with the same service provided in any of our 2,240 stores. It is our hope that we brought a little joy into their day with a new pair of shoes and a warm hat. But I can guarantee you our 140-plus employee volunteers got just as much out of the event as the children."

This is the 20th year that Nashville-based specialty retailer and footwear wholesaler Genesco celebrated its annual signature community outreach program. Additional contributing vendors included: Converse, D.C. Shoe Company, Etnies, Huffman Hosiery, Puma, Timberland and Uni Hosiery.
