Jimi Hendrix, Killick Datta Back In Action Global Feet Picks Up Licenses Since Global Feet Inc. was formed last year by the executive team of GBMI and Titan Global Holdings, Inc., the industry has been watching and waiting for GFI president and CEO Killick Datta’s next move. “Everyone wanted to see what I would come back with after Diesel,” Datta says. The answer? Plenty.
The former GBMI head has clearly been busy snapping up high profile licenses. “We will be launching Energie, Killah, Murphy & Nye, A.B.S. by Allen Schwartz and Energie Kids at this show,” Datta told WSAToday. In addition to these, GFI will also be bringing two other collections, the recently introduced Hendrix by Nomass and Nomass lines, to GFI’s suite at The Collections at WSA. “Energie and Killah are huge brands in Europe,” Datta explains, noting that Energie will focus on sneaker-inspired casual shoes for men and boys while Killiah will have “feminine and sassy” product. “Even before we announced them, word spread and everyone was calling me.” As for the decision to create a line of Jimi Hendrix branded footwear, Datta notes the guitar legend, who died in 1970, reflects current trends with the added benefit of retro authenticity. “He was all about color and graphics, and we just felt this was a way to do something a little more sophisticated than a typical Chuck Taylor,” he says. “People want something different.” Tie-dye patterns and Eastern-inspired imagery add flair to classic sneaker silhouettes. The line retails from $60 to $95.
