Boston Bustles Selling Ballets And Pumps
Leokadia Customers Look For Comfort and Class

Image Located in a residential neighborhood within Boston’s South End, Leokadia is one of less than a dozen boutiques in the neighborhood and the only shoe store. Although the shop has only been open since April, it’s already earned the affection of local residents: “The women in the neighborhood are beyond grateful,” says owner Jessica Lynn. “I’ve had women come in just to thank me.”

Lynn credits the store’s success on its wide price range (from $50 to $1,200), a selection of hard-to-find European offerings and a high level of customer service. “I’m genuinely friends with my customers; I know them, I know their kids, I know their dogs’ names,” she explains. Here’s a look at some of the styles flying off her store shelves.

Style #684936 by Marc by Marc Jacobs

Price:
Retails for $355

“It’s a 3.5-inch peep-toe pump in army green trimmed with black leather, and the silhouette on the top is scalloped. People love Marc Jacobs in general, but I think this shoe is doing really well because it’s a classic silhouette and the color can go with all the fall neutrals—it can go with brown, grey, black and even navy.”

Skye by Dolce Vita

Price:
Retails for $80

“It’s a bright orange patent, and I think the first thing that people are drawn to is the fun color. It also has a 1.5-inch heel, which is a great heel for people who walk around the city a lot. The third factor is the price—it’s a great shoe, and when you flip it over and see the price is $80 it’s kind of a no-brainer.”

Santini by Boutique 9

Price:
Retails for $155

“It’s a light gray suede ankle bootie that cuts low in the front and it has a little bit of ruching. This shoe has really been popular because of the price and the light gray color goes with everything. I’ve had a lot of women buy it because it looks so stylish with a pair of black opaque tights—it’s actually really versatile and sexy.”

Style #784929 by Emilio Pucci

Price:
Retails for $410

“It’s a black satin pump and it has, on the toe, a Pucci satin bow that covers the whole front of your toe. This shoe will go with everything, and I know some women have bought it just because it is so pretty and so classic. It’s the perfect shoe!”

Bolchoi by Repetto

Price:
Retails for $255

“It’s a ballet flat, but the front of the shoe is square, almost like a point shoe. Repetto is a very well made shoe, they’re all double stitched so you can see they flipped the shoe inside out, stitched it, and then flipped it back and stitched it again on the outside. This shoe has a rubber bottom so it’s going to be really good for walking around all day.”

Slip by French Sole

Price:
Retails for $150

“It’s a bronzey-pink ballet flat with a very thick rubber sole. It’s a sturdy shoe and French Sole does really well because they all feel like slippers on your feet. It’s more structured than the Sloop by French Sole ($95)—our most popular shoe—which is a real basic flat that we offer in 11 different colors.”
