Owners of Acadia Footwear Hillary Hickmann and Laura Richards

After finding success with Beach Soles in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., owners Hillary Hickmann and Laura Richards opened a second store—Acadia Footwear—in Bend, Ore. Even though spring is right around the corner, Acadia is doing a brisk business in winter gear. “People love something that looks nice but is still practical,” explains Hickmann. “For example, something that’s waterproof but that they can still put with a nice pair of slacks or a skirt and wear it to work.” Popular styles include below-the-ankle shoe booties and tall boots with accents, while shearling and trim details top the list of coveted features.
