Located in an historic area of Bellingham, Wash., 12th Street Shoes caters to the working woman who wants comfort, as well as style. Image “[Our customers] don’t want the basic walking-type shoe,” says manager Krista Williams. “They want something they can wear to work all day long and be comfortable and can wear with dresses and skirts, as well as pants.” For the fall season, Williams says the store received continuous requests for shades of brown, and shoes made with patent leather also caused customers to reach for their pocketbooks. “Most people seemed to say that they have a closet full of black shoes and needed something different other than black,” Williams says. “I kept hearing, ‘I’ve got a ton of black shoes, I will not buy another pair of black shoes.’” Here are some of the other styles that made it into their wardrobes.

“It’s an athleisure shoe, so it’s an alternative to a running shoe. It came in two-tone colors (gray and green; brown and red). It’s a slip-on with funky lacing that’s light and comfortable.”

“It’s a dress shoe, but Indigo is another line of Clark, so it has added comfort features. It’s on a 2-inch heel, but it’s well-padded, so women could work in it all day. We carried it in brown suede with a crocodile printed toe, so it has some nice details.”

“They were on a wedge sole, and we had them in rust and black; both colors sold out. They were a closed toe shoe with big wide straps that crossed over the top of the foot. It’s a good everyday shoe; good for shopping. It gives you some height, about 2.5 inches, but it’s still really comfortable to wear.”
