Would You Spend $158 On A Canvas Tote?

gi-marcjacobs1.jpgThe answer to that question will be learned by Shopbop.com. The e-tailer is the exclusive source for the Miss Marc Goes Green Earth Shopper, a supermarket-ready “it” bag by Marc by Marc Jacobs. While many consumers will likely turn up their noses at an eco bag likely to cost more than the organic vegetables that go into it, Shopbop may be onto something with this bold move.

As study after study finds that dedicated green consumers have less price resistance when seeking green goods, it’s only natural for luxury brands and retailers to find ways to provide them with green product. By combining lower price resistance with the power of designer branding, savvy brands just may hit the sweet spot for a small but powerful consumer group. So don’t be surprised if you start seeing Miss Marc’s wide-eyed face looking back at you from the neighboring aisle of your local Whole Foods.

So, tell us — would you spend $158 on a canvas tote? And, if you would, would you really take it to the grocery store?

I would if the manufacturer were to give a large percent of the price to and earth friendly or hunger related chairty..I’m always carrying around bags from the different grocery stores i shop at..sometimes with groceries but most often with thing I’m hauling home from work..consicuently i have many of these bags..is that a bad thing or a bag thing? a little of both i think..

Only if $157 goes to charity.

Never in a million years! There are much better ways to spend your money improving the conditions of humanity and the earth other than lining the pockets of a designer!

Conceptually, I would buy it and use as a handbag/everyday tote but not for groceries.

In this case, it’s too-cute, very young/junior-looking and if her daddy can pay $158 for this bag, she’s a lucky girl. I’d look for something else as there’s nothing worse than a middle-aged woman trying to be in her 20-30’s again. So Marc, what do you have for us ladies who can bring home the bacon AND fry it up in the pan?

    Good challenge to Marc, Rose!
